CIT related terms, expressions, examples and use

Vocabulary

BACK UP: make a copy against failure.

FREEZE: become blocked.

LOSE: have a loss, fail to keep something.

LOG IN / OFF: enter and terminate a session.

RECOVER: regain, get again.

SURE: safe, clear.

SHUT DOWN: power off, close.

REMIND: I´ll remind you to do it. (future intention)

REMEMBER: I remember playing in the park as a child. (past memory)

HANG UP: Wait a second, I´ll find him, don´t hang up. (on the phone)

HOLD ON: I´ll find her, hold on a second. (wait, please)

CONTACT: I have to reach her, I´ll try to contact her company today. (get in touch)

CALL BACK: get back to, contact later

UNAVAILABLE: We are out of stock, it is unavailable at the moment. (not here)

PAYMENT: The money you give in exchange for a product or a service.

PRICE: The amount of money that have to pay for a product or a service.

INVOICE: A bill listing the goods or service supplied and their price.

PAYMENT DATE: The day that you must start paying a product.

CUSTOMER: The person who is buying, purchaser.

SALE: the act of selling / making a special offer.

RESOURCE: a source of supply, support, aid...

ORDER: something you ask for.

SUPPLY: provide with.

MISTAKE: error.

PART: a piece or portion of a whole.

QUOTE: offer as a price or amount.

CLAIM: request or demand.

CHARGE: ask for a price.

FIT: be of the right size.

ENQUIRY: request for information.

CASH: coins and banknotes.

STOCK: The goods kept for a future use or sale.

QUANTITY: Amount (number of items)

DELIVERY: The presentation of a product to your door.

PRICE PER UNIT: The money that you have to pay for each item.

QUALITY: Characteristic or feature of a thing...

VAT: Value-Added tax (IVA)

GOODS: The products a company sells, transports or deals with.

HANDLING: the process by which a product is prepared, handld, wrapped, transported...

SHIP: send (usually overseas)

USER-FRIENDLY: easy to learn how to use it.

PORTABLE: Easy to carry.

ALL-IN-ONE: including everything.

RELIABLE: that you can trust it (like dependable)

DEPENDABLE: trustable, reliable.

TOP-OF-THE-RANGE: made with high quality materials and procedures.

STURDY: strong, thick.

SLIM: very thin.

BUILT-IN: made in one piece with non-removable parts.

FLEXIBLE: easy to adapt.

FAULTY: with defects

Repair: change parts, replace, fix, adjust, remodel.

Stop: freeze, quit, halt.

Shut down: turn off, power down.

Connect: plug, link, attach.

Assemble: Put all the parts together.

Check: make sure, verify, go over, revise, confirm.

State: remark, declare, say.

Wrong: incorrect or false.

Avoid: keep away from.

Call: phone, contact. Caller: the person who is calling.

Busy: occupied, engaged, not available.

Put on hold: make the other person wait.

Cut off (the line): disconnect without warning.

Expect: wait for.

Let: allow.

Return: send back / go back.

Assist: help.

Refuse: deny a demand.

Suggest: give advice.

Complaint: expression of discontent.

Antonyms:

USE:

- When we pay cash we sometimes get a discount.

- Sometimes prices don´t include taxes.

Built-in products can´t have their parts removed.

- A good processor makes a computer powerful.

- When there is no stock of a product we make an order.

- When we run low on any item, we note it down.

- Check the cables for a loose connection.

Phrases:

in a meeting: de reunión   "He is in a meeting, I´ll tell him that you called"

I went early to avoid heavy traffic = I didn´t want to drive in heavy traffic.

She spoke in a professional manner = She talked in a qualified way.

Can you repeat that, please? = Can you say that again, please?

There was no reply = No one answered.

This work is urgent = We have to solve this inmediately.

Disaster strikes the computers of the company! Something has happened and everyone's work has disappeared. They have to call in the IT support, but will they be able to explain to them what the problem is and will they be able to actually help?

A phone conversation:

T: Hello!  How may I help you? 

C: We´ve got a problem with a delivery...

T: May I ask you what the problem is?

C: Yes, our order still hasn´t arrived.

T: Sorry about that... could you give me more details, please?

C: Yes, our customer number is N3445, the order is F45 and we ordered that product on 12th February.

T: Ok, let me take your name and number. I´ll check and get back to you.

C: Thank you. We will be waiting for your call.
